Welcome to the Food Bank of Iowa! Visiting our facility is the best way to understand our role in the emergency food network. We offer several different ways for individuals and groups to experience Food Bank of Iowa and our work.

With COVID-19 being a factor, we have created a virtual tour of our Des Moines facility. Take a look at the virtual tour below to learn more about Food Bank of Iowa. We hope we can see you in person soon!

Host a Meeting

At the Food Bank of Iowa, we’re all about collaboration — in fact, it’s one of our 5 core values! In this spirit of working together, we are pleased to offer the use of meeting rooms in our Des Moines facility to community groups, local nonprofit organizations, and corporate partners. We ask that community groups and corporate partners make a monetary donation for the use of our space.

Multiple Options

Tailor your visit to our facility to meet your needs. Bring your group in for a tour and stay for a volunteer shift. Wrap up your meeting with a walk through our distribution center. We’re happy to customize your experience based on your team needs. Contact Laura Sheriff at lsheriff@foodbankiowa.org or 515-564-0332 to make arrangements.

Additional tables added around the centerpiece table can add up to 12 additional seats. A large HDTV (HDMI connection) at one end of the room and a glass marker board to add to your group’s productivity options.

Use of these spaces is subject to staff availability and scheduling requirements. We ask that community groups and corporate partners make a monetary donation for the use of our space. Feel free to set up a time to look around our facility before you host your event.

Tour Our Facility

We’ve been in operation since 1982, but our Des Moines facility completed a total overhaul in July of 2018. Our 53,000-square-foot distribution center is the hub of distributions totaling more than 1 million lbs. of food each month. That food reaches the tables of 175,000 food insecure Iowans thanks to our network of more than 600 partner agencies — food pantries, meal sites, shelters, and more — all dedicated to ending hunger.

Tours of our facility average 30 minutes and include every area of our facility from the Wellmark Foundation Volunteer Center to the Nationwide Foundation Distribution Center, home to massive refrigerated and frozen spaces, plus thousands of pallets of food.

Food Bank of Iowa is a smoke free facility.
