The Walking Fed
TBD 2021 | Jay's CD & Hobby (all locations)Zombies should go hungry, but kids shouldn’t. When spring and summer break hit, kids who depend on school-based programs for breakfast and lunch no longer have access to these meals. This is why LAZER 103.3, Jay’s CD & Hobby and Unkl Ruckus’s Smoking Emporium and Skate Shop are proud to present the Walking Fed food drive to benefit Food Bank of Iowa in an effort to help feed the kids and keep their shelves stocked.

Drive Away Childhood Hunger
September 16, 2021, 11:30 a.m. | Talons of Tuscany, 1525 NE 36th Street, Ankeny, IAFood Bank of Iowa’s mission is to provide food for Iowa children, families and seniors to lead full and active lives, strengthening the communities where they live. You can help us towards our mission by joining us for Drive Away Childhood Hunger at the private Talons of Tuscany Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa.
Drive Away Childhood Hunger will raise funds to aid our childhood hunger programs. The event’s centerpiece is a round of golf on this 19-hole course, plus access to the incredible Albaugh Chevrolet car barn. The day will also include a catered lunch, cocktail reception, and live auction.

Smoke Out Hunger
Summer 2021Food Bank of Iowa will be celebrating 6 years of Smoke Out Hunger! Smoke Out Hunger celebrates family, food, and fun while raising funds and awareness for Food Bank of Iowa. Stay tuned for more information about our Summer 2021 event!
Enjoy all the BBQ you can eat from a smoke-tastic lineup of local pitmasters and restaurants (including some unique vegetarian BBQ options!). Pair your BBQ samplings with refreshing craft beers — all at no cost past the ticket price! Round out your Smoke Out Hunger experience with live music, kid’s activities, and picnic table board games. Yankee Doodle Drive Against Hunger
Postponed until 2021 | Iowa State Capitol, 1007 E Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50319The Des Moines Symphony’s Yankee Doodle Pops is Iowa’s largest single-day concert event! in 2019, Yankee Doodle Pops raised enough food and funds to provide up to 22,000 meals for Iowans! This annual family-friendly and patriotic concert concludes with the area’s premier fireworks display over the downtown Des Moines skyline, and best of all, it’s FREE!
Concert
Attendees can bring picnic baskets or purchase food from an array of vendors at the concert. Spread a picnic blanket or lawn chairs in the shadow of the State Capitol’s golden dome as the Des Moines Symphony performs American classics and patriotic songs to celebrate Independence Day!
Food Drive
Yankee Doodle Drive Against Hunger would not be complete without a Food Drive. Thank you to the participating Des Moines-area Bank of the West or HyVee locations for joining the Yankee Doodle Drive Against Hunger.Our most needed items were:
- Proteins (e.g. canned meat, canned fish)
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit
- Canned soup
- Dry pasta
- Breakfast items, including cereal
- 100% fruit juice
- Paper and personal products (e.g. toothpaste, soap, toilet paper)
Strike Out Hunger
Throughout the Iowa Cubs baseball seasonIowa Cubs pitchers have extra incentive to strike out batters, thanks to Strike Out Hunger! For every I-Cubs strikeout, 72 Degrees Comfort Company will provide 20 meals to Iowans in need, all throughout the I-Cubs’ season. The 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons were excellent years for strikeouts, resulting in nearly 65,000 meals donated to benefit Iowans in need!
When you’re at Principal Park, be sure to look for graphics on the left field video board and in your player bio packets!
